About Me
Welcome! Here’s a little bit about who I am, what I do, and why I’m so passionate about homemade meals and healthy ingredients.
Our Journey to Better Ingredients
Hi! I’m a husband and father who deeply cares about my family’s well-being. I’ve always been passionate about food—especially the ingredients we use. My journey began when my wife and I noticed changes in our kids’ behavior that seemed linked to certain foods. We realized many ingredients we could hardly pronounce might actually be harming us. On top of that, my youngest son and I both developed strange bumps on our skin (definitely not warts!). I also got short of breath when I ate foods with unrecognizable labels.
Alarmed by all this, my wife and I decided it was time for a change. We cut out around 90% of all processed foods from our home. While we haven’t eliminated them entirely (that’s our long-term goal), we’re more careful than ever about what ends up in our pantry.
How We Started
We focused on the foods we bought most often and asked, “How can we make this ourselves with fewer ingredients?” Our boys love pasta (and honestly, who doesn’t?), so that’s where we started—making it from scratch. Next came bread. I’m not a sourdough baker (love it, just don’t have the patience), so I learned to make basic white bread, hamburger buns, brat buns, and rolls.
Then we dove into sweets, which sparked my interest in baking. Meanwhile, my wife began rendering tallow, making bone broths, and even churning butter. Next on our list is homemade ice cream!

Why It’s Worth It
I’ll be the first to admit that making most of our food from scratch is more time-consuming. However, I can’t stress enough how rewarding it’s been. The food tastes better, we feel better, and it has brought our family closer together. My wife and I spend more time in the kitchen, laughing and chatting, and our boys are constantly challenging us with new recipes. We also don’t eat out as often, which saves us money. Although we had to invest in some appliances and kitchen tools early on, it’s paid off. A single bag of flour goes a long way in making bread, pasta, and more—all for a fraction of what we used to spend on store-bought products.
Our Health Today
It’s been a few years since we started cutting processed foods from our diet, and our health has significantly improved. My son and I no longer get those mysterious bumps. Although I’m not entirely sure what caused them, I do know they disappeared once we changed how we eat. That’s proof enough for me that real ingredients make a real difference.
